Our Story

A STORY OF DEDICATION AND EXPERTISE

Almost 40 years ago, in 1985, James Schmiemann started JPS Electric Co. as a one-man, one-van operation. He came from a family of tradesmen and humble beginnings - as a son of a baker and operator of a Brooklyn / Queens staple - Schmiemann's Bakery, a German bakery known for their delectable and memorable cream crumb cake. His brothers worked in carpentry, roofing, building product sales, and electrical, running their own successful businesses across Long Island. Trade and business was in the family's blood.

James poured his blood, sweat, and tears into becoming a Master Electrician and building a successful business from the ground up. Even in the beginning, there was no job too difficult or too small. He rose with the sun and took calls at all hours of the day and night. He lived to ensure his customers were thrilled with the product, the service, and the people providing it.

A FAMILY LEGACY CONTINUES

James's son Kevin grew up in the shop from the time he could walk. From the beginning, he learned the tricks of the trade, took rides to customers' homes, and worked on car rebuilds with his dad in the garage. In 2005, Kevin was honored to join his dad as he stepped into the company. After many years of official apprenticeship, learning the craft, expanding his knowledge, and perfecting technique, he was eager to acquire new skills and grow the business to become the top technical experts in Nassau and Suffolk Counties.

When Kevin became the owner and CEO of the shop after his dad finally allowed himself to retire (a decision he made after years of apprehension!) and reap the rewards of a life well-lived, he gladly accepted the opportunity to lead—and to instill in his children the work ethic he learned from his father. Maybe one day, Kevin's kids will run the company and pass down their legacy for generations to come.

EXPANDING GROWTH AND IMPACT

From its humble beginnings as a one-man shop, JPS has grown significantly. They have expanded their product and service offerings and now proudly operate with a dedicated team of skilled professionals and an ever-expanding team.

JPS's recent acquisition of Trius Electric, formerly owned by the late Thomas J. Dipolito—a staple in our community who will always be remembered with the greatest admiration and respect—reflects its mission to provide high-quality service to as many folks as possible. As JPS continues to grow and expand its reach, they are excited about the opportunity to increase impact in the community, as they are actively channeling a growth and expansion mindset - looking for ways to continue to serve the community in the most meaningful ways.

JPS Electric Co. is more than just electricians; the company is a part of Long Island – lifelong community locals.
